Every now and then when scrapping something, I have come across this thin platy material. It is very shiny (like Chromium), very hard and brittle, and is strongly ferromagnetic. It breaks into very sharp shards that stick in your fingers about as easy glass. There is a picture below of a small torroid I smashed. I was expecting a ferrite core, but when it was hit, it generated a large number of shards. My question is 'What is this material?" I presume some Iron or Nickel alloy, but I am not sure.
Thanks!
