k Yesterday, I ran across an automotive spark plug, with platinum in the name.
This plus had 4 outer prongs and the usual center electrode. Not sure, but I think it was "Bosch platinum".
That reminded me of when I was scrapping from an abandoned small airport dump piles, back in the early 1980. The sparkplugs used in aircraft were saleable as scrap for a buck each, which translated to a gallon and half of gasoline.
The question is, does the current "platinum" name on a spark plug indicate any platinum content or is it just a fancy name?

Spark plugs have their own class at large urban or industrial yards. Many don’t sort out things but some auto salvage companies might.
I believe all spark plugs have some PM in it. Nickel or Palladium. Maybe platinum.
As to the name? It’s not regulated so it could be platinum. Or a fancy name.
On the other hand Bosch is known for performance equipment. And the names equate to real materials.

They also have a post consumer sourced materials policy. They’re also very hard to find on your own; much like snap-on.
So walking into a large scrap company with a handful of Bosch spark plugs may get a second look. :)

Some spark plugs can have iridium in it according to wikipedia, but it is mostly used in ones for aviation it says.

Yes. Bosch makes such a SP as well. ;)
Quickest way to find out is look up the part on the manufacturer website
