I take it you had the key then. (Or hopefully we’re smart enough to use a juggler and not an expensive master key set).

I /believe/ the 500 series ran from early 70s to late 80s. With no clue which goes where date wise.
The mechanical ones up to the early 70s run in the low hundreds and I can find a few electro-mechanical ones of the era (70s) in that same range. Most working though.

I don’t think I’ve ever come across a 511. I had a 510 once from a sears that liquidated. And after some minor repairs it sold for $150. As a door stop my /guess/ would be around $50.
I’d pop the top though. See what’s inside. I’m curious like that.

I wouldn’t try to get this one fully working unless you have the expendables with it. Quick parts check shows things like ribbon etc is $50+!
$30 per spool, $15 springs, $40 fuse. Though the 511 generic ribbons seem to be under $10.
Why you’d spend $35 on a master key when you can cut an empty soda can for
Free I’ll never understand.

The 510 I had was the same size. Smaller screen. And far more “keys”. Believe it was 91 but it’s been a while. I just remember being floored that the qwerty keyboard had no function other than custom item names for the tape register. A gorgeous purple Z8000 and ZSCC. Totally wasted in a calculator cash register.

I also assume it has the giant transformer in one corner that makes it lopsided heavy. Keep shipping, and how to pack it, in mind. Like larger minicomputers in keyboard layout design, old registers tend to fall off conveyor belts. Over stuff the padding in a too large box, on the transformer side, if you ship this. The buyer will be very happy when they open up the crushed box and find an undamaged system. :)

Speaking of. It’s likely just been dropped. If the board Isn’t cracked Repair or replace the transformer and any blown capacitors and it has a 50/50 shot at firing up.

Wow, a roll of tape for free! ;)
Looks like the ribbon is in there, and tape looks solid so spools are probably good.
You didn’t say so so I’ll assume the lift spring didn’t com flying out.

So it looks a lot like the 51e. 5 or 6 canister capacitors (I believe), a serial board. Guess I vacuum tube readout. Can’t tell from the image. My first guess fix wise after verifying capacitor and fusing health would be to bypass the key lockout. The electrical key socket. And try to turn it on.
From there grab a $5 electrical tester from $5 below or Dollar General etc and get to testing.

It a bit of a project but if your handy you could probably track the issue down. If you wanted to.
If not I’d clean it all up. Weigh it. Make pretty look at me photos and ebay that sucker. + shipping obviously.

Cash registers aren’t really my thing but I do play with EM accounting machines when I find them. Same kind of key lock to block out accessing stored value functions and the like. And tampering. Tax machines for CPAs that made the federal punch card ballots had them too. Peripheral f you can bypass it you can get a lever or push button switch for about $2. And replace the key point. You’ll want to do that anyway. But do keep the lock with it for a buyer.

Or again, sell it as is.
There’s unlikely anything major scrap wise unless the serial controller of a a ceramic gold cap. Unlikely on such a low feature model.

Fortunately these, like all EM calculators, are very forward in their workings.

There are two machines here. You have a 1968 certified CPM calculator. And an electrically triggered lock vault.

You have the basic set of ICs for mathematical function. Everything beyond those ICs is purely getting the correct energy to the correct spot at the correct frequency, and in the correct offset for spikes.

Head over to good will or savers, Salvation Army. Etc.
Find a 99 cent - $1.99 old fashioned can opener or the like. Low end mechanical kitchen appliances. Look for the closest you can get to the correct wattage and buy that appliance. (Test it for free while there first, obviously. Just needs to turn on/power up, not work)
Steel the transformer from it and swap it out.

I don’t SEE any blown caps in the photos. So the transformer is my first point to look at.

Sill not working? Any chance you have a wall or under stove convection oven that has a keep warm function?
Good

Remove the boards from the casing

Turn on the oven to 250• and wait 10 minutes or so

Now Set the oven to keep warm and open the door. Wait a few minutes (3-5) to let it both cool off to the keep warm temp.
Doing this in this order is vital.
Place the boards on the bare track with a steel cookie sheet on the rack below it. Partly close the door to the mid-way point.
After 30 minutes gently take her boards out and let cool go an hour!
Do NOT drop or bang them!
That’s typically warm enough to SOFTEN the solder back around pins without melting/burning anything g.
The cooling time helps keep tight seals without gaps from air or shrinkage.

Put it back together and try again.
