Here is what i can deduce from my stripping phones the last few years.

Flip phones
always sell whole.with one exception
Razr. Always strip. The aluminium copper and silver content brings them to about $2-$5 depending on model.revision and market

Candybar phones
Most have silver aluminium Alloy shields so worth stripping if your local yard buys pm because bell metal runs $8-$10 an ounce

Feature phones
Htc and Motorola have enough Pm and aluminium to strip. Samsung Before 2007

Sliders. the keyboard Feature phones
Only quest and Casio ever worked out in value to strip .

Smart phones part 1
Removable battery phones
Most are better sold whole unless you have a buyer for every material
The ones i strip are:
Blackberry
Samsung prior to the s2
Nokia
Zip
Garmin
Quest
Lg except g series

SMart phones part 2 sealed phones
Apple phones and some Samsung htc etc
if the case is aluminium it's worth stripping
everything else remove enough that Boardsort known FOR SURE you removed the battery

Brick phones
Almost always worth stripping. Lots of silver and gold.
Early Motorola bricks have rhodium connectors for the antenna base. Snap if off many had pure (22k not plated) battery contacts too. Use an xacto knife to gently peel them off the board.

Anything earlier than that and most car phones should be stripped for pm recovery.
Older car phones with the big sealed circuit box (usually in the trunk) thr boards are gold capped boards. :)

Tablets and pdas should almost always be stripped. Especially since 99% of them have non replaceable batteries inside.

Ereaders should be stripped if they work only. genericly eink screens go for $5+ if whole and working. Boardsort buys the rest.

Rugged phones: will almost always bring higher prices whole.

Last note..if you have a working phone (turns on and boots to os, regardless of other damage and water damage)
Look to see if you have an ecoatm close to you Before dumping your phones and tablets. They buy damaged but repairable phones and tablets and they get fixed and donated.
