 Post subject: Flat Pack Question.

How would I sort my Flat Packs? And if the black part of the flat pack is missing would it's be the same?

With it missing I'd guess midgrade or Maybe peripheral depending on the model? But not sure.

It sounds like you are refering to the BGA (ball grid array) type chips... the type with a black top and green fiber bottom that have solder balls on the underside.

Flatpacks generally mean the epoxy chips with metalic legs coming out the side, although the term is used interchangably by a bunch of people.

either way, the black top is what contains most of the value... the green bottom is nearly worthless, but you would have to check with BS to see if they are willing to buy them. If they don't there is alway ebay.

if these are not the chips you are talking about, a pic would help to identify them.

It is the ones I was talking about. I have a handful that had the black piece break off during removal. Thanks for all the help everyone.

If your going to remove them try a heat gun.
I use a ryobi multi-temp for all my reflow in repair and scrapping.
700-750 f seems to remove flatpacks just fine without damaging anything anything else.
