I am having trouble discerning between these 3 board types. I have some that i feel are clearly midgrade but others that seem to be on the fine line between midgrade and peripheral. For example, a diode driver board that has both flatpack FPGA chips and large mosfets. And in some with many ICs on them that i wasn't sure if they'd be telecom. I was wondering if anyone could give some insight as to what to look for particularly to identify the difference between each of these board types (as in what types of ICs, quantity etc....)

Thanks!

The fastest way we can help is for you to post your boards’ photos.
From there it’s generally practice.
Low and mid grade are fairly simple
Low has no ICs, or is brown, white or grey.
Low grade stuff is basically expensive trash.

Midgrade has ICs or has copper. And is not brown. It’s better than low but is isn’t up to the peripheral rate.

Peripheral is generally a catch ‘most’ category. If it’s not one of the higher grades, AND is obviously not a motherboard, peripheral is the starting point. Too much steel sends peripheral to midgrade. 2 ICs on a six inch board with a dozen steel brackets gets midgrade.

While it may be a bit harder to sort now, for the time being; I believe it’s also going to be easier to earn more for your scrap.
things that used to be borderline now have a telco place to go.
