Not sure i totally agree.
For people with background in the industry (tech) even at scrap rates blind-like auctions can fetch good turnarounds.
My phone example was just that: an example. A word to the wise or keep in mind type of thing.

The best storage unit I ever bought was 100% blind. No looking. No photos. $500 and I was the only bid.
Listed as automotive and computers.
Got a Sunbird with 6000 miles on it.
A first AND second set of Sega genesis with sega cd, a single 32x, and nearly 500 games. All of which was in the TRUNK!
Plus a pair of Leading Edge towers. One a 386 (I sold) and one a DX4 I still have for occasional outings in Castle Of The Winds. One of my all time favourite games!
