I have a small box of lithium ion laptop batteries that were removed from the plastic cases (so they are just the battery cells, not whole unit). Are these acceptable as normal laptop batteries as long as all the ends are taped for shipping?

Part of what they are after with the higher rate for laptops is much larger gold contacts on the case. By removing the case (and contacts wires etc) you're removing everything that makes them more valuable.

Thank you. I know they lose the gold contacts that way and therefore some of the value. I think there is some little value in the Li cells themselves and wanted to check if they are interested before I take them to the local hazardous waste collection facility.

I'm not sure if they buy battery soft packs or not. They are definitly of value though.

If I were you, I would just take it to a local place... Lithium batteries are a HazMat items and are subject to some different regulations/costs. You would have to check with the post office concerning safe handling to see if it is worth it.

Fedex small box. With "exception". Theres a little battery sticker the put on it and it goes ground.
i sent chris an email covering /all/ batteries. As soon as I hear back I'll post the reply.

If they can't take them I'll post some links to battery buyers who will pay for them. Boardsort is generally after the gold but lithium is a rare heavy metal and due to politics our largest supplier (Russia) may not be available in the near future.

If You want to recycle them... find a local electronics store or whole foods or the like. Government hazmat drops take them out of circulation for /way/ to long. Imnsho.

Given history it tends to be a week or two.
I asked about quite a few so we'll see what he says.

Have you heard back from them on this issue? I was getting ready to send in a shipment and was curious if there was a resolution for this question before I send stuff in.

Thank you for your help,
Eric
