are these some kind of batteries / are they safe to open ?

Not 100% sure what these are based on the picture. Power relays, transformers??? Not capacitors, definitely not batteries. Depending on what it is either take apart at your own risk or definitely don't take apart...

Yes they are safe to open, whack it with a hammer

If they’re as flat as they appear they’re likely relays and then hammer time sounds… er… fun? I guess?

here is side view. They are magnetic, I just wondered if they might have mercury or something inside. I will investigate later.

The lack of depth made it tricky, soon as the side picture was there I knew you were safe, some copper, some steel and maybe something special in the contacts :D
