Hello.

I have been removing heatsinks from Shielded Gold-fingered RAM using a heat gun. First of all, what's the optimal temperature setting? (My heat gun ranges from 125 F to 1300 F.) Some heatsinks seem to require higher temperatures than others. Is there a temperature that will damage the RAM to where it's no longer acceptable as Gold-fingered RAM once the heatsink is removed?

Also, many of the sticks still have some glue on the ICs or across the blank side. Is it still acceptable as Gold-fingered RAM? Or will I have to manually remove this glue? Photo attached.

Use a small standard screwdriver. You will get the same outcome. No electricity needed!
Glue is fine, regardless of the amount of residue leftover from the shielding removal process.

Screw driver works better for most ram. Once you get a corner loose just follow the glue around the edge like a tuff potato skin.

Stubborn ones: 750-ish at 6 inches distance

Any hotter you risk reflow of the tin. That’s really bad on modern ram where pure surface mounting is used with no anchor pins.

I tend to set ram against my small electric room heater and let it sit awhile. Usually thats more than enough to pop off the heatsinks.
