Always post photos of unusual stuff. There's some rather rare stuff out there, especially ram, from Intel boards.

Hi! Merry Christmas to all. On the subject of gx 780, gx 790 computers I have had luck with word of mouth selling redone fresh install of window 7 os using the key on the tower case to validate to be legal has to be right version installed on computer. That being said it takes 15 minutes to install os then you have to make sure all drivers installed and do all updates. The time issue is with the updates which sometimes does install missing drivers, it takes 2-4 days for windows to check computer for needed updates (I tried the stacked updates but it didn't take) and then 2-4 days to download and install updates.
So it takes time. The last system I sold for $150 tower, monitor, keyboard and mouse. I have sold some older versions for $40 to $50 but decided to scrap all but the windows 7 towers. So my first run in near future 350 towers and servers dismantled. sorry this is so long.

I understand I have 2 large sheds, a garage, a room in my house and my den/computer room all loaded so when the time comes all must go even if tempted to hold out items. We scrappers can't scrap 1 or 2 types of items it has to be everything we get our hands on.

lol I understand that mantra. I've been threatened with sleeping in the cold a few times for my "mess"!!!'

Non scrappers just don't understand, but they sure live the cheque in the mail!!

As for old computers and 7
There's two places you'll have more issues than anywhere else
Video
Audio
I've gotten windows 10 running stable on a k62 so it is possible but support for anything and in many cases drivers shims and splints are needed and only come from hobbyists like me who wrote a driver from scratch.
I had to write nvidia drivers from scratch to shoehorn 10 onto a 2014 hp for my mother. But it's doable.

You get an AMEN on the grief you get from non scrapping significant other ( have to watch it or the ladies on this site will give me what for if I say wife)
You are far and beyond what I do on computers but windows 7 is good for another 3 years and I use windows 10 but don't like the tracking aspect it has built into it. Of course you have to watch windows 7 updates because there is a list online of which I have the numbers of updates that make windows 7 track and report your use of the system (I don't think it is personal info but general use) so I didn't install those updates when doing refresh.

Just pointing to it's not so much age as it is products inside.
The core base of AMD CPUs hasn't changed drastically since the k5-k6 transition.
Where getting 10 to run on a core2 or P4 is a nightmare.
AMD vs intel is a debate I won't start here but all subjective stats aside the one thing AMD has going for it is future proofing. There are 8 bit bit sliced drivers for max and fire 3D 20 bit cards to run 8 bit unix derivatives. And windows 10 support for the same cards.
Where nvidia cuts support on anything beyond flagship a generation later. That 2014 hp had a 6000 series card in it. And all nvidia said was sorry can't help.
It's always worth playing around and always keep outdated serials and keys . You never know when when you'd need it until a gem falls in you lap like the ps/2 I got on the side of the road Monday; fully loaded with a 10 meg drive.
You will almost ALWAYS make more selling a whole working system!
