Does removing bulky items from boards effect the price? Capacitors, transistors, coils, inductors, etc.

Yes and no.

Some boards are best left as-is such as pc motherboards and other standard computer gear because they are already at peak value with no more room for an increase. Not to mention it adds weight in your favor.

There are some situations where you have a nice looking board full of ic's but there are a few bulky items such as you mentioned. By removing the bulk it is possible to improve that board. Most of these types of situations are handled case by case as each non-standard board has its own set of challenges.

We recommend consulting us (or your buyer) before removing anything beyond the normal stuff (heatsinks etc). The last thing you want to do is waste your time by finding out that all your effort was pointless because it did not help the value, or worse, it hurt it (by making it lighter).

Only thing I would really worry about would be transformers or CBMs (copper bearing motors) on low-grade boards. If they are large enough or are on the board with a fair amount of exposed copper, I would remove them. CBMs fetch between .20 and .25 per pound depending on the local market for copper, but some can broken apart and the copper recovered with very little effort. Search youtube for Moose Scrapper as he posted a video with some common types of CBMs that can be broken apart for #2 copper.
