Just a follow up question on platters - does Boardsort take the glass platters from the smaller drives drives (laptops etc)? I wasn't sure if it had to be metal based or if that doesn't matter? Thanks

Yes, as far as I know. I've sent them with no issues.

I have some platters from old HP 2.1GB SCSI drives (early 90s). 5 1/4" drives. They have a bronzeish finish on them. Any value? They weigh just shy of 2.2 oz.

Thanks,

Tony

It's the right age group for gold platters. Though definitely on the younger side. I hate to say anything definitively but it's probably worth looking for a scrap yard or jeweller who has an xrf gun. Gold platters tarnish VERY fast in air; literally the amount of time in taking the shell off.
(Don't fully understand why but has something to do with something else in the drive's air).
Brown platters are worth a bit of extra running around for materials I'd no matter what they are because there's quite a few different materials that may be worth far more than platter rate.
