Well, those old Dell boxes are exactly what makes a good Linux workhorse. Just old enough to have drivers and just new enough to be useable.
Grab a monitor and keyboard and plug it in. Does it boot? If so yes great Linux box.

If so my personal favourite is here.
Download the X86 ISO and burn it to disc.
Install takes about 15 minutes per computer and they'll fetch somewhere between 40-60 (ish) working.

Hey put that Mac back together and see if it powers up. Working macs are worth money.

However if none have hard drives ignore everything above. Pull the CPUs out (boardsort will probably have those on the list of buy CPUs). Scrap the rest. Dell tower parts don't hold value well. Like hp it's all proprietary or sub generic.

Yea he owns the computer repair shop andall hard drives have been removed to protect his customer's info also the Mac's hard drives been pulled but he assured me that they all work if that matters? Also I thought only CPUs above 2008 or higher are the ones they buy ? Most of these desktops are 2005

Ok as far as opinions everyone has one. Now me I look at the fact that the guy who could set up these computers quickly and had the harddrives which he could erase and nuke clean still did not find it worth while to do. Also he would have more buyers available to him more than likely. I do not redo anything without windows 7 COA sticker since you need to have certain COA for each machine and needs to validate. The install of 7 OS doesn't take long but the updates can take 1 to 5 days depending on Microsoft and I have comcast cable internet and it goes fairly fast when source site gives up the updates, they were having some real problems end of last year and beginning this year. I have about 20 of each 7 and 10 OS's and it is still slow selling desktops when most want laptops. Now when I say that vista and xp computers were scrapped I have done about 400 in the last year but you have to get them at the right price, free is best. I am guessing that a tower goes $3 to $5 with the higher value because older computers with more sticks of ram that was heavier than the newer ram and more gold finger cards. Some people upgraded the older computers with ram and the video and sound cards until the newer computers started to come out more often since the hardware improvements were happening so fast and it was more economical to replace computer instead of hardware with software also. Now to get best price you have to scrap everything including steel case, my 400 cases got me $175 with steel at 2 to 3 cents per lb. which is low compared to what it used to be. Sorry this is so long but didn't know how to say it any other way.

I think it really comes down to how much you want to deal with the reselling aspect of things. yes there is money to be made, but is it worth your time/effort/cost to do so? You have to be careful removing the parts, sort them, label them, set them aside somewhere clean, then go through the hassle of listing them, selling, shipping, dealing with customers/returns/payments.

If all I did was computer recycling, then I would probably try to sell more components... but with limited storage space, a full time job, dogs and a house to take care of? I decided it was best and easiest to focus on scrapping. I just want to turn my profit as quickly as possible and be done with it because the reselling quickly got overwhelming.

That's my opinion and probably worth less than two cents :P
