I have about 10 pounds of computer ribbons. I have been removing the end and pulling off the small connectors from the ribbon. They come of very easily. The ends of the connectors have a very small spot of gold (assuming that is what it is) on them. I have also removed IC sockets that have the same spot of gold inside them. All plastic, metal and other useless material has been remove. I also have been removing some gold covered pin that is fully covered. Been keeping them both separate. The only thing I have left is the pin connectors themselves. I realize that it will take a lot to make a pound. Wondering if BOARDSORT will buy just the connectors by themselves, (assuming they will) and a price would be helpful.

I believe boardsort does buy gold plated connectors. Usually the ones I find are the little black jumpers.

They do. They buy those as cable ends. Check the price list for current pricing. Mike the Scrapper has done a video on cables and you can make quite a bit of money by trimming the cable ends and selling them here, then selling the rest of the cable to your local scrap yard as insulated wire.

kgryczan is right, for sure. The money you get from copper wire alone makes it worth tearing the computers apart. I average two good connectors and about a pound or so of wire per machine. The serial ports and connectors are the good connectors.

Check the cables that run to things such as front side USB connectors and the front case buttons. The ends that plug into the motherboard may have gold pins and you can trim those off and toss those with your cable ends.

But the only problem is that shipping costs sometimes exceed material value. If you have ten pounds of connector pins going for $0.85/lb that is $8.50. The cheapest way to ship such things is with USPS flat rate boxes for $7.95. So after shipping you have made about two quarters. Best to wait till you have other higher value scrap and include the connectors in that box. Example: If you have 5 pounds of gold memory at $14/lb(5x14=$70) you could throw in a pound or two of connectors to round out the box and make them worth your time. Just a suggestion.
