I've broken down a Dell PC and was surprised to find that it contained an old 80286-12 processor. The board is massive..weighing in at almost 1 1/2 pounds. Also contains a huge 9 oz gold finger expansion card and smaller but still 5 oz card.
So my question is, should I sell these for standard scrap value?? or try to sell them as a lot to some interested collector/enthusiast on a forum such as Ebay?

Any other ideas of what to do with these items?
What would be the approximate value??

Your advise is appreciated.

Al Cabral

The 8019 if socketed will go as 8086 CPU.
That board with the rest of the socketed ICs left on will go as telco, as would the main board. The drive controller (first photo) is a gold finger card.
I'll be frank; if you know what your doing as a tech and have the time to deal with a customer in troubleshooting you may want to sell them on ebay.
Stuff from this era is notoriously finicky. Even working I tend to ebay this stuff both AS IS and FOR PARTS.
You don't get as much as the used working rates but still above scrap value if you're interested in dealing with it. But I've enough experience to know some matched pairings just won't work.
So I'm not even going to try to explain to joe buyitnow that you can't just drop in an aTA board and call it IDE. Just because it fits. They're two wholly different incompatible variations of the technology. But since everything is ata ide same thing in terms...! Doh!
CGA vs EGA
iDE of PC-12.
Your board is bad because my core i7 doesn't fit. ;)

I actually had a buyer try to jam an I7 into a pentium socket, attached heat sink and all. Then email to find out why it wasn't working.
I said your cpu doesn't have any pins. He said he put it ON the socket and screwed the fan on top and it should work or he'd want a refund!

I hear you guys.

Think that I'll give it the Ebay approach with around a $19.99 starting bid plus shipping, otherwise it isn't worth the time and effort.
I like the AS IS and FOR PARTS recommendation.
I'll also explain that I have no technical knowledge (not to far from the truth, although my son has a masters degree in computer science) and would not be able to provide any support.

Thanks for the feedback.

That's actually about where I'd go with a 286 board myself.

As a follow up to my post, I did sell the 286 motherboard with expansion boards on Ebay. After shipping and fees I cleared a little over a $20 bill. Not bad for an old PC that someone decided to just throw in the trash.
Sort of like finding a 20 dollar bill lying on the street...

Great. Much higher than scrap. :)
