10 ozs of random boards.
minor aluminum.

most green/green printer boards are peripheral (like what you have). very rarely they will get a higher grade though.

ripping apart printers for boards isnt worth it in my opinion... you will probably make more in scrap metal though. if the money you make in return for your time, then continue... but only you can decide how much your time is worth. once you do, sit down and with a stop watch and see how long it takes you to tear things apart. grab a scale and calculate your weights to see how much you made and calculate how much your $/hr rate was and decide if it is worth it.

a stopwatch/timer is very important though... too many times it 'feels' like something only takes 5-10 minutes to take apart, but in reality its more like 20... it is remarkable easy to loose track of time when scrapping :P

Mls put it exactly correct. Old inkjet printers I can break down completely in under 2/3 minutes. But new ones like the office jets and the like take me much longer.
These days if it’s dead and getting scrapped, for ink jets I’ll pop the shell since I still can sell abs, aggressively yank any motors I can get at for CBM, pull any loose boards and the rest goes in shred.
Laser and dot matrix printers are always going to pay off taking apart even if it solely scrap. Even the highly compact ones from Samsung and xerox I can break down in a half hour. And laser and DM parts have second market value even dead.

thanks for the help.
I never thought you could sell your abs plastics so I did a search and found one almost next door to my metal scrap yards.

Abs is one of the most sought after plastics for the recycling industry. It’s used in absolutely everything today, from your shoes and watch, to your computer, car, and your house. It’s also one of the easiest materials to recycle because you can simply micro shred it, heat it up, and remould it.
Do sort colours. Atleast lights from darks. They may not require it but they’ll like you that much more.

Just do a quick yellow pages dot com search for plastics in your zip code and hit the phone. Eventually you’ll hit on one that buys.
Most abs buyers are plastics manufacturers.
If you’re in a larger metro area try auto wrecking too. And in industrial areas try the actual steel and iron scrap companies.
I found out that one of my yards buys construction scrap when I saw someone unloading vinyl siding and asked. They take some plastics, clean leaded glass (don’t bring us TVs basically), and asphalt/blacktop.
A nearby quarry buys road scrap too and i now will take broken concrete statues in my clean outs.

And always look at a call to specialist automotive shops like luxury and imports places. Most of these guys won’t buy it from you but many are nice enough to tell you who their buyer is.
Depending on colour and density abs is currently in a range of $0.75-$3.50 per lb. on the wholesale market. This is last stage pricing so expect $0.25-$2.

Again my motto anything that has been made can be unmade, and if it can be unmade it’s worth scrapping somewhere.

when dealing with plastic buyers whom ever the maybe ask what there minimum weight requirement is..

for me if i where take it to my scrap yard i would have to have 1000 lbs+ [maybe more now been a long time] for them to even ''buy'' it.

in other words they want in bulk.. not just a few plastic printer shells

Good point evil, do verify weight requirements and restrictions. My abs buyers will take anything “large”, and the order needs to be 10lbs or more. They don’t want 5 lbs of shavings and cartridge door covers.

For PE they want 100lbs minimum and it must be bailed. Like all scrap make sure you understand their rules to have the best selling experience.
