Have recently picked a bunch of CD/DVD drives that are marked like the pic.
Sn is Tin, Ag is silver, but where do I find it in that assembly?
Thanks!
J

There is almost none... tin is usually found in the solder as am alloy. Silver is usually found in high temp contact applications. There is not much of either in cd parts, but it would depend on the maker/year/ model/etc... it's not really worth going after since you are talking fractions of a gram if it is even there.

The ribbon wire is usually silver wire. As mls said the solder is the source of tin. There’s gold in the laser array.
As mls said though... these don’t pay out much. At least under the industrial scale.
I usually pull the laser unit since they’re most often gold plate. And the IC. But I have a scrap pm buyer for that stuff. Rest o drop in a shred bin depending on the stamp on the case mold. Mg is magnesium, al is die cast aluminium.
If it’s all steel it goes CBM.
Mind though I don’t put any effort into it. If I strip a screw or the diode doesn’t pop right out the unit goes shred whole.
