As a general rule how meany I.C. chips would it take on a board to be classified telecom ?

Hi there

It is not a matter of how many but the percentage the ic chips cover the surface of the board. I'd recommend you to post a picture of the board or check different post in the "what is it" forum to get an idea.

Boards will likely fetch telecom pricing if a significant portion of the board is populated with IC chips or there's a good quantity of flat pack chips on the board. Some enterprise grade routers and switches have boards that fall into telecom category because of the flat pack population.
