Wondering if anyone has had any experiences scrapping the UPS battery backup units? I've taken apart a few already and scrapped all metel to the local scrap yard. The boards in these look like low grade brown boards. Should I try to remove any of the aluminum components or other items like the small copper transformers, etc. to sell to the local yard or does Boardsort looking to have those items left on boards like this?

I believe boardsort will take them either way. It's up to you to decide if it's worth the labor to strip the board of transformers and aluminum. I usually pick off any aluminum and only the transformers where the copper is exposed and easy to separate.
