Just a quick question.

When it says laptop only in the payout rates, does that mean you only take li-ion from laptops? Do you take them from other sources also, like from cell phones or other electronics? I know I have to tape them or they explode if they were to short circuit.

Laptop only to me means the 18650 type Li-ion type cells.

We offer two different Lithium Ion (LiIon) battery prices:

Laptop Only Lithium Ion batteries pay $1.50 per pound currently. (any exposed contacts must be taped over)

Cell Phone/Other Lithium Ion batteries pay $1.00 per pound currently. (any exposed contacts must be taped over)

Thanks!

Is it preferable for me to strip the plastic off of the cell phone batteries or leave them in their plastic cases? I've stripped three or four so far but will stop if it's not necessary.

Leave them in the case! They are mainly going after the contacts. That and I'd be VERY VERY careful of the bare ones now! The entire outer case is negative! Very easy to short and cause a thermal runaway now!
I'm like lostinlodos when it comes to batteries, had a few go up on me in my day.

Thanks! What should I do with the ones I took out of the case? How do I dispose of them safely?

If they're not bulging like balloons
Tape the wire end where you snipped the wires loose.
If you still have wire leads tape around the end of each wire. Then tape the wires down one to each opposite side.
placed one on each separate seat in your car and head to the nearest electronics retailer or chain hardware store and place them the battery bin.

If any are bulging take them to the fire department and ask for help. You're past the safe handling point.

None of the removed ones are bulging. And I didn't snip any wires. I just popped the hard plastic cover off and the batteries just popped out of the covers. However a couple that I haven't touched yet are bulging. These came in a random box of electronics I was given. Anything bulging should go to the fire department?

Yep, or an electronics store will take it too. I don't mess with them at that point, don't want to inhale hydrogen fluoride from a venting cell!

What does hydrogen fluoride smell like? How do I know if it's venting?
