I am curious if the newer generation server ram that has the aluminum sheeting to dissipate heat on both sides (but is still 9 chip ddr2 ECC RAM underneath) is qualified as gold finger ram or rambus. Having opened up a rambus stick on occasion I know there isn't much under the cover on one of them. Hence the clarification question.

If the heat shields are left in place, the RAM will be classified as RAMBUS RAM. However, they are easily removed if carefully pried off with a screwdriver or by breaking the rivets if riveted on.
