Also can the aluminum heat shield taken from the outside of rambus be put with heatsinks?

Yes you can remove the sheets from rambus (aka ANY shielded ram). I and others even have a few tuttin help and general discussions on getting them off. Including where to snip riveted shields to not damage the boards.

Thanks... Yeah I’ve read one of those threads, and have removed them all. I’m just woundering if board sort will take the clean aluminum sheets I remove for heat sink price listed on their price list. Boardsort pays 15 cents more a lb for heat sink then they do at any of the yards around me.

Not sure if the AL off RAMBUS counts as heatsinks or not but regardless make sure you are factoring in shipping costs for anything you are sending in...you are probably NETTING less if you are shipping these to boardsort even tho their payout rate is higher.

In other words...If they pay 20 cents locally you get 20 cents. If it costs you 30 cents a pound in shipping to get a 35 cent rate then you're only clearing 5 cents a pound by sending to boardsort.

I’ve taken it into consideration. I’m having my brother drop off a few boxes next week hopefully on his way back West from VT as long as I get the go ahead from Chris, I sent him an email the other day to make sure it is okay and when. I’d never consider shipping anything unless I did the math out. Thanks for looking out though.

They won’t take the aluminium via shipping last I heard. As to in person, that’s a different story as it’s a different location.
It’s not worth shipping as noted above though.
Heatsinks (internal computer aluminium) is usually a few grades above the standard commodity #1 sheet al though.
If you have a local yard large enough to break al by classes it will normally fall into aerospace al, and fetch around 35-45 cents per lb (this week). If not you’ll get #1 sheet for 25-35 on average. (Again as of now).

All in small view unless stated

Bottom right is peripheral. Rest mid grade

All peripheral

One with the big hole is peripheral, rest telco (unpopulated mobile boards)

All peripheral, see above

One with the ribbon, remove the ribbon and it’s green fibre dlp.
Rest are ic class. I know. It sucks. It is what it is. :(

Scrapeverything,

I live in the Albany, NY area. If your brother passes through on his way back from VT, which is likely, just about every yard in this area pays .50/lb on average for clean sheet aluminum (a catch all category) and more than that for extrusion.
We enjoy ridiculously high rates for scrap because of the convenience of the deep water port (Hudson River) and proximity to NYC.
Let me know if you need more pricing info on some of the yards in the area, there's a bunch of them, and they all compete with each other, so rates are good.
