The net cards are peripheral as is. You can easily take them apart though; the boards run telco, rarely “air card” and exotic ones can even reach cell phone class.

Normally I’d say the shield must be removed but I believe this is a case where the screw heads have been branded out with a molten punch.
If It can be removed easily from the back side do so. They’ll downgrade boards not cleaned up when they could be. If it’s permanent, just leave it alone.
