This is a picture of a couple boards that I sent you yesterday. I am sorry for being such a newbie but why is the one on the right upgraded to multi large socket and the one on the left not? It just isn't making sense to me because they are almost identical

Because the smaller board is a standard multi socket and the other a special item. two complete motherboards on one a single pcb.

I only mention bumping that one (its not standard practice ) because i asked directly about a similar board not to long ago (Sun AxSess server panel board). Yours is better than mine was too!
That large board has total and complete redundancy.

Let's look closely at the large one. You have two primary cpus expansions (the sockets)
To board controlled base cpus (the K6-2s) two sets of video controllers. 3 pci slots each cpu.
4 ram sockets per cpu. And two breakout slots.
Plus...! (But there's more) you have the backplane socket on the edge. Which is massive.

I don't believe it's populated enough to class telco but if you sent them in I'd email chris at boardsort dot com that picture so he knows to let the receiving dpt look out for it and get a review in person.
