If you remove the metal from metal socket server boards, they would be bought as small socket server boards correct?

you could try, but I'm fairly certain they will realize that the leftover black (and most likely broken) socket will indicate it used to be a metal socket MB... As opposed to the normal off-white color of all other small socket MB's.

The metal socket boards go as such because of the land grid array sockets (lga) removing the socket metal catch lowers weight... but doesn't change rate. It's the lack of pins, not the metal that really decides a msm.
