What is most generally done with cd drives is the main board with the IDE/SATA connector is removed and the rest is thrown in with the shread steel for the local scrap yard.

Mike the Scrapper has a video he made specifically on CD/DVD drives and floppy drives. He breaks them down completely, but in the end, he says the same thing scob89 says: take the boards out, sell the rest as shred metal.

You can take the low grade out and sell it if you have a local buyer for it,or you are local to boardsort.
