I bumped into these two pair of RAM blanks(?). Found the first set installed into two of the motherboard's RAM slots, beside a "normal" pair. Found the second set duct taped in a plastic retail RAM package to the inside of the case cover.
I figure, at most, they are Gold Finger Cards, but there is no population.

Never seen these before, do they serve a purpose?

Those are RAMBUS blanks. With Rambus memory you have to install the stick in pairs only. so if you only have one stick you use a blank in the matching slot.

With the actual memory sticks, pull the aluminum heatsinks off each side and they become standard gold finger ram price and don't need to be seperated.

Ok, I didn't know that about pairing RAMBUS. Thanks.
As a matter of fact, I found two RAMBUS in that machine and four more in another. I drilled out the rivets and removed the aluminum, weighed everything out and calculated selling both ways. Turns out it pays out some 50+% better to separate. I photographed and documented, maybe I should post that under Tips and Techniques.

No, the one I posted above are blanks, Gold Fingered Cards at best(?).
Sorry, we got a little off target discussing these below, which would go as Gold RAM, the sinks go to the aluminum pile.

I normally use a cheap pocket kife and pop off the aluminum. quicker then finding the right drill bit and the rivets are very weak.

You can do the same with fully buffered ram too, two clips easily come off and the aluminum sides just pop right off.

Those blanks are purchased at $3 per pound.

They are neither RAMBUS nor Gold RAM. I have never ran the number on them to tell you if it would be worth it to trim the fingers and sell the fingers as Clean Gold Fingers or leave them be. I suspect you would need to gather at least an ounce of fingers in order to get an accurate measurement.
