I have several different boards from high end networking equipment that contain these small gold capped chips. They all have a little flat piece on top with the identifying information engraved on the surface. This piece of material obscures part of the surface of the chip but the chips are gold plated across the entire surface, beneath this plate. I just wanted to confirm that all boards like this can sorted as gold capped chip boards?

They do not. They’re both not ICs and way to small. About the size of a screw head. Most of these are a thin nano plating. And the gold is very low content alloy.
