As promised I took photos of some of the blanks I knew were in a box I'm sorting. So let me know what you think lostinlodos.

Ultimately up to Chris.

B is very close to making peripheral. In my book.
It’s got the outer layers of gold under the masking. And the inner layer is gold.
A sandwich board.

A is junk. There’s only the outer layers in a small spot. Inner layer is copper. Low grade.

Front and back.
Ignore the squares. The only gold outer layer is under the pads. It’s a copper board. Low grade.

Unfortunately those would all be low grade, if we would even buy them at all.

Certainly not worth shipping.

While there is likely some gold somewhere within the board, the problem is that there are many costs associated with the multiple processes required to recover it. Add the price of the board itself and ultimately there is no money to be made which is why we prefer not buying it.

Thanks Lost and Chris! or whoever answered for boardsort??? :D

I don't ship anything lower than CD/DVD logic boards at the moment so these will go to someone more local to Texas.

This does give me a better idea of what I'm looking at, along with the other info Lost posted elsewhere, so I have a reference when I find any other blanks.

I hear about these a lot off site from people who watch YouTube and then go and buy a bunch of these for refining.
Even when they get it for free or pennies.
Then the reality sets in after doing something like that first board
Well, I spent 25 cents on it and 6 days in the bath after I cut it up and another day on recovery and wow! I got $2.50 in gold.
It only cost me
8 days
$25 dollars in chemicals
And $32000 at the emergency care Center to treat the acid burn because the guy on YouTube uses tongs and no gloves so I used grill tongs and they melted.
But I have $2.50 in gold so woohoo!

Yes that’s about the actual recovery value. Plus a few penny’s in aluminium from the masking and around ten to twenty cents of plastic.

Lol, I did some silver refining once, just for the education and experience. That was enough for me to decide I would not touch gold refining.

But yeah, I had a guy at one of the places I get material from try and convince the owner that all the circuit boards had gold on them if you just scratch off the green and that he could do the chemical processing. D:

I do think it would be cool to be able to send in X number of RAM sticks to someone and then get the approximate amount of gold back (even if it's not from the RAM I sent) just to be able to say I recovered $X of gold.

Anywho... Those blanks were in a gaylord with ebay packaging so I'm betting someone was doing exactly what you're talking about and ended up taking them to a scrap yard.

By today’s consumer price of gold, $1120/poz, gold finger ram will give you somewhere around $12-$15 worth of gold on average pp.

I believe I know what those blanks are (3rd party for HP and/or Dell servers).
I’m 90% positive on my deductions on them.

You may not have been here long enough but my prior signature was “I blow myself up so you don’t have to”. Which I use on other sites to this day.

I’ll put a 2014 prototype demo caddy to my point that I’m positive there is no refining method in existence as of 2019 that I have not seen in action if not tried myself. From electrical separation to old skool acids to to nuclear.
Refining less than 1000lbs of escrap is a lost cause.

It takes around 300-500lbs of the very wide range BoardSort classifies as peripheral to break even in pure acid/base refining.
Electrolysis methods can bring that point down to 100-250lbs.
There’s only one RX company in the world, in Sweden, that has shown you can get that BEP to around 25lbs. But who wants to deal with radiation in their back yard. Not figuring on the legal aspects of it.

I did a board very close to, if not exactly, (it was otherwise black masking), the top board here.
After cutting it to Apx 2 inch squares I milled it with a large hobbyist rock polisher into powder. After an HCL bath for 6 weeks, a mixture of base separations to separate all metals, I wound up with just under 1/20 dwt of 20ish kit gold by today’s consumer value of very close to the above mentioned rate. And why my initial though was peripheral.
To directly quote from Chris
Quote:
That is not to say your judgement about the sandwich is not correct,
it is just that we have had bad experiences trying to recoup on
blanks

There are very few companies in the world set up to do this profitably without secondary materials.

Generally speaking...
I love finding silver clad coins.
I’ve mentioned in other posts I’m buying cases of water with old silver coins.
But clad...! All coins issued by the UST, USDF, or Union Treasury, are legal tender. Show me a clad quarter, half, or dollar... and it won’t be clad for long.
Laws are changing but the penny (2.7č scrap) and nickel (7.4č scrap) are protected by defacement laws.
Gold, silver, and clad coins are not. So I occasionally acid bath clad coins for silver. The remaining relatively recognisable coin is still legal tender: which goes directly to the closest store with a self checkout. Or my bank more lately with C19. With the very pretty early Middle-age teller who smiles and looks at me funny when I deposit a few dollars worth of quarters, halves, and dollars that just look off a bit but are always accepted by the machine.

Off topic triple post. Why is it so hard to find n ATM that takes coins?!!!!?
The closest one to me that’s not private (casino operated) is Apx 50 miles away! A whole state over!
And am I the only one who took coins to a bank (or coinstar) 110% positive of the total amount and exact quantities per denomination only to find some coins not being counted!!!?
When I bring in $50 worth of l pennies I expect to get $50.
Not $49. Not $49.50! Not $49.99!!!!!! I expect $50 to be counted when I put $50 in. I learned the plastic tray quantities at my bank to make sure all coin deposits were exactly what would be tray capable and not need the damned inaccurate machine!

As FYI, 50 pennies. 50 dimes. 25 nickels. 20 quarters.
10 halves. 20 (modern) golden dollars. 10 silver dollars. 10 quarter eagles. 10 half eagles. 10 eagles. 5 double eagles.
Deposit a 2 cent, 3 cent, 20 cent, or half cent... they look at you funny and question your sanity!
