Normally Google fails me but it looks like these are:
10/100 Base-T Transformer Modules

Looks like multiple sources call these integrated circuits but the transformer part throws me so...

I'll let lostinlodos confirm if they're ICs. :)

No. They’re multi level packages. In general for the shape and size.
Which may or may not have one or more ICs in them.

I generally don’t suggest looking either. Some MLPs like Dallas clocks have a button cell battery.
Others like MCH clocks are a raw lithium battery inside the plastic. Quick fast fire.
Some are power units in oil. Open it up, make a stinky mess.

In this case it’s on the board so ignore it but if it was loose you could crack them and pop out the board with the ICs. It would be midgrade or peripheral.
Not a wise idea though!

M-tek, Bel, Lankom, Pulse, Linkcom, Delta, Halo, are some of the more common types of these modules.

They all look similar , black squarish boxes that resemble an Integrated circuit chip ICC.

Do not bother opening haha, some only contain copper wound ferrite beads and no chips!

Where’ya’ been Spence.?!?

Again; do NOT open anything more than twice the height of a surface mount IC. Unless you’re and advanced level tech AND know exactly what is inside it.
Again: “I blow myself up so you don’t have to!”

Yes, some like specific versions of the Dallas real time clock have nothing more than a cell battery and two ICs.
Most of this package design is nothing more than electrical equipment consisting of ceramics and copper.
BUT
What if it’s not. Those oils, you will literally NEVER get rid of the smell. Cost $9000 in renovation when I left my old condo! New everything including drywall!
Mercury! Barium. Etc! not fun!
And what if you’re battery backed clock turns out to be a non-sealed lithium coil. Say hi to the fire department. Been there done that.

Not to mention some sealed sensors are radioactive. Chris I’m sure has a list of part numbers and can figure it out if such issue comes up in final resale... most major recycling companies have detectors. And the most advanced techs have them too. Including myself.
But you’d never know! And your whole family will die a slow painful death oozing goo out of every pore and hole.

That a blatant enough warning not to screw with crap you don’t understand?!!!!?

Lol. Sometimes not knowing is the safest route.
