Consumers don’t recognise LTO and it’s not in any stores bust it’s extremely popular n industry.

How many do you have.
What is the exact condition? Used/new/open/unknown.
They’re with about 60č in scrap. $25-50+ To a buyer depending on if it’s used.
If you have more than one I may be able to make an offer depending on condition (and I’ll prepay shipping for a test of one or two).
I’d be a bit less than individual ebay sales but I’d buy as many as you have if they test out ohkay.
Each LTO version card read:write the previous version.
A second set of 28 cartridges would be very useful for a secondary compressed backup for me.

As a general FYI I tend to buy NEW and SEALED LTO 5 at $10, 6@12 and 7@15-20.

For any that are open I’d require one test cartridge, up front. I’ll cover shipping.
If it works my offer would be

around $10-$20 each depending on exact things posted by my drive’s testing software.
Or...$100-$200 per 10.
I’d pay for that shipping (with tracking) as well. Payment AFTER testing for tapes that pass as 95%+ usability. I’d return any that don’t pass that threshold. I try to stay under 60% use per tape with the maximum 50% redundancy so so I need 93.67% usable surface.

Thank you for the reply, ok.. this is a lot of 600 units.. Used.. and we have 2 little issues for this:

1) this items are not in the US.
2) We need a certifícate of destruction because of the nature of the info on them.

If any of this 2 inconvenience matters.. please make an offer for this lot.

Argh. CoD is problematic.
For two reasons. Out of country you need to abide by extra rules in law that don’t apply for domestically transferred material. Where I am secure erasure qualifies as destruction meaning I can do a 20-bit run-length wipe, not damage the tape itself, and fall within local law for “destruction” with a 92% erasure rate; and be able to use or resell the tape.
On imports you’re likely bound by the contracting location’s laws for what qualifies as destruction. If it’s an EU member or partner (inc Canada and UK) that’s generally pellet shredding.


600 is a fair bit of weight.
You’ve got steel, aluminium, nickel in the head brushes. Lots of plastic.
The tape itself has a metal layer to it, all magnetic tape does. But it’s rarely separated and this stuff (magtape) is generally recycled into mouldings and housings. Like for the security sensor tags in boxes.

I doubt boardsort would be interested. But you can call. For one thing YOU or your agent, must ship from within the US any material that boardsort buys.

Beyond that there’s the obvious issue. You are likely required by your contract to be the destroyer (9-in-10) and boardsort is not interested in shredded materials.

My suggestion in the latter case is to contact TerraCycle or Green Disk.
