and what things can come off and will not hurt the value

Depends on the manufacturer but the vast majority are peripheral

Copper transformers and resistors abe about it. Generally heatsniks, transforms and coppor (square/cube) resistors.
Leave everything else alone.

They're all peripheral. You can pull the small transformers without hurting value, but not sure why'd want too as the trans is worth less than the peripheral rate.
