After searching several places and coming up empty, I'm forced to ask...

I have a few laptop motherboards in my pile that have a metal socket holder for the CPU, like a desktop mb. Can I leave these metal sockets on the board and still receive laptop mb price?

It would likely depend on the board. Laptops with replaceable socketed CPUs are rather rare. They tend to fall into two groups, desktop boards in a laptop (which would be metal socket) or embedded/iot boards which would also be metal socket board.

There are some rare exceptions from boutique companies where they have actual laptop style boards with a socket. Which would be a laptop board. However most of this style are slightly older boards using PGA sockets (pins) not LGA (compression).
