Awhile back I pulled a bunch of the gold pins from the connectors and from the slots on some of the boards. No plastic/rubber, metal. Does anyone know what what they are worth? I know gold fingers are worth a lot more if you cut them off the boards but not sure about the pins

you would have to send an email to Chris. I know they shy away from pins because of the wide variation in gold yields. They may quote you a price, but dont get your hopes up. I gave up on pulling pins long ago as the effort to returns was not there. You're best bet may be selling on ebay... people see gold plated stuff and go bonkers there.

I would be curious to know if anyone else has sent in pins to see what price they got.

I wish I hadn't pulled them but i was bored and figured it would b worth more. I've seen several places buying whole connectors for like .50 or .60 cents a pound. And probably 99% of the weight is plastic or metal.

I send a small amount of pins, pegs, contacts etc in almost every shipment.
You MUST email Chris with your quote number and let him know that you have included pins in your shipment.
They scan them with an XRF machine and pay out based on materials rate of what the pins are .

You could get 50c-75c per pound for very low grade pins. You can get a few hundred per ounce. But don't let the numbers effect your plans. Either way.
Most of what I've sent has averaged about $5-$25 per lb and I've already used my own equipment to test, and to remove, the lowest quality and highest quality stuff.

There's no upfront rate. And there never could be; any service that says we buy gold pins do $XX is ripping off someone and over paying someone else.

Would I be better off sorting the pins? Like separate pins that are almost completely plated from the ones that are only plated a quarter of the length of the pin? Or just cut the silver part off? Or will it matter?

Cutting; That is debatable.
And I don't really have a suggestion

I would sort by sources though; sata from usb from vga etcetera.
Makes scanning easier for them.

Hmm any idea where I could find some pics of what the pins from each cable look like? I pulled these pins over the winter when we had a bad snowstorm lol. I can't remember which Pins came from which cable or connector? I guess I could just try to match them up. Thanks for the advice. Does board sort have a minimum amount/weight requirement that you have to meet?

There's really not a minimum as far as pins go.
A maximum I'm sure there is but no idea how much. Send them 50 lbs of pins and they'll all stand there and scratch their heads but within reason you won't have a problem. I'd cap it at a pound or two most per order. Remember they're being tested individually by hand.
So a giant box or gayloard full is going to have some issues. ;)

If you're talking a few ounces just try to match styles together.

Well within reason.
If you can't sort them there's really no issue either just makes lining them up to scan easier.
