Lost,

I have a lot of learning to do still.....lol.

Can you explain why that middle board is considered a backplane, please and the last picture goes as cd/dvd drive board?

99% of the time something that small I just toss in peripheral but you've got a plastic I/o port on one side and two plated jacks on the other and from the looks of it no steel/plastic junk.
Backplane is the next plausible category. I'm not totally sure but bp is where I'd toss it.

Should I pull that metal cover off of the on in the picture?

I also have some that have silver colored jacks on them those will go peripheral, right?

If you can pop it off it makes them happier.

Yes silver ones will (almost) always be peripheral
