dvr main boards what do they go as small socket or peripheral i get a lot of direct TV receivers doing clean outs was curious whether to scrap the whole unit or pull the board

Vast majority of those are peripheral rate. Though there are socket/mobo exceptions

Pull the board.
Cut the chip from the access card it's a sim and they buy them (20c or so last time I sent them, per lb)

Also some will have ram cards and modules and even screwed in cable cards that can fetch air card or telco once removed from their shells.!!
