So even though those unit were actually CPUs in real life, because of their physical make up they are only GFC?

Yes because they're missing a cpu
Without a CPU they're blanks and go as finger card.

this.... some multy processor boards required something to be in the CPU slot to operate correctly (or so i was told) so they made these kind of boards.

Now, the original poster actually is showing up the same side of two different boards... if it was front and back of the same board, the fingers would look like a mirror image of each other, but the notch is in a different spot... so it appears as if we are seeing the same side. it does look like they are laying pretty flat so i would be inclined to say they they do not have a cpu on the other side... if that is not the case, sail4life, let us know.

With only CMCs and only secondary control unit on the shown side I'm making the assumption it's a blank.
If there's a cpu on the reverse side it would be slot processor

I did not catch the fact that I took a pic of the same side of each! Here is the pic that I should have posted showing the proc on the opposite side.
