Off the beaten path of usual subjects, going to pick up a cast iron tub this weekend, what would be the best route to take, it's free, condition unnone.

I replaced an old cast iron tub in my old house some years ago, it was not the type with legs that have some resale value. It was just regular tub flush with the floor and a smooth front face. Now that thing weighed 350 lbs. and with steel at about 3.25 per hundred (I am not sure about cast iron) you may get ten to twelve dollars maybe. Now you have to count your cost (gas) if it is a special trip not on the way to where you are going. Don't forget to take help for lifting so not to hurt yourself.

The ones with feet can be worth a fair bit to collectors and antiquities people

Cast iron is currently between 6-12 cents per lb lb. a bit above clean steel.
As mentioned above be careful and prepared. These are h e a v y !!!!!
A 350 lb tub is actually on the lighter end.
It's free because no commercial junk hauler will have a "reasonable" rate for it.
I'll usually clear a room or two still for free and charge for these.

That said if it's intact and holds water without leaks you can sell them for a small bit even if not with feet. 50-100 if you can figure out freight.
But 20-$100 as scrap depending on weight and rate.

I remember one time a friend of mine did use a cast iron tub as a goldfish pond in her backyard piping the drain upward so not to drain the water then buried the tub with dirt just below the lip. She did the landscaping around the outside and water plants inside the tub for the oxygen for the fish and it turned out right nice.

Well this has been used for a watering trough for horses, but seems to be in good condition. Also picking up a small trailer, utility trailer, i think is what it would be referred as. Might need a little welding on the tongue of it??
And I've already pulled to truck beds full of "treasures" and all this because I answer the Facebook post, does anyone pick up non-working refrigerators?
Did I mention I was down a 20 foot ravine?

Becareful with any appliance the has refrigerant in it.....it's illegal to cut the lines and release it to atmosphere. It has to be recovered and disposed of properly.

I don't know about your state but here I have been told the yard wants licensed tech sign off on refrigerant removal so I don't touch them. On the trailer if your state needs title you may want to see if person has old title if not check to see if can register it as homemade if not go for scrap metal or if wheels and tires in good shape sell them separate, they make good spares.

It sounds like on someone's equipment list they may want to put 50 ft of good strong nylon rope. lol

Cut the copper tubes from the back of the fridge at the mounts; to free the tubes canister and all. Without cutting through the copper. Then start calling every ac automotive and appliance company at yellow pages dot com that's within reasonable driving distance. Cutting through the tube is illegal but finding a company that wants the collant for free or will even pay you is not hard.
