Aluminium or glass base
With a gold carbon or nickel silver palladium coat respectively
Most commonly. If they've been swapped out at some point they could be anything though. An aluminium nickel alloy base with palladium or platinum coating being the most common replacement from Hitachi.
They're platters as far as boardsort is concerned as long as they're smaller than 6 inches. Anything larger you'd need to call or email them.

ok. Looks like this is basically going to be a e-scrap recovery situation. Its just too sketchy for me to sell something without knowing working condition. Don't want the headache of ebay. What is the majority of the weight? just the cabinet or heavy transformers?

Yes. The shell and transformers make up the majority of the weight. Though steel tray holders add a bit too.

Well, I have a person on another forum wanting some of the boards it seems and the small IBM 5360 emblem. Everything has value to the right person it appears.

Make good collectibles
I've got a CBM (Commodore) set I framed, now on a shelf somewhere.

got all the boards out and HD assembly out and what I think is the HD logic board? HD disks are I think 14" in diameter and the assembly is about 30-40lbs. Where should I go from here?

What are all the perfect silver looking squares all over these boards? Is that just solder? There not connected, just look like silver square dots.

The boards in the aluminium cases. Most likely peripheral if you can get them loose. I'd say automotive board with case is likely if still attached.

The ports/connectors will be gold pin connectors for single sides connectors, peripheral if pins on both sides or all the way through.

These yellow squares don't have much to them. Went peripheral for me.

That's breadboard. If it's copper, or tin, holes/ solder balls you'll get peripheral. If the holes are gold or silver you'll get up to telco.
Whole the boards are telco.
Given it's an earlier unit I'd bet on nickel/tin solder and mounts. For peripheral; but requires on site review.
That's a LOT of memory! :)

The "painted" squares are mount points, for a surface mount land grid (LGA).
It's probably nickel tin. For peripheral on the low population boards.

Which one is breadboard? Sell the boards as is or is that bubble memory worth more? I tried to use octopart to look up some of the part numbers, but its not pulling up anything. Guess its just too old. The board that's in the aluminum mount will unbolt, just didn't have time today. It was on the HD assembly. Which holes are you referring to on the Telco boards?
