Hi folks,
a friend of mine just brought me some controller-boards he found in the scrap.
I sorted them out in two units - i still have no idea if these are HDD and/or CD/DVD controller boards.
Maybe someone can help.
Thanks in advance!

The rectangles are all cd/DVD
The rest look mixed. Hold on for a further post

Nope, looks like they're all cd/DVD. Processor/timer/cache looks to be cd/DVD (or at best those smaller ones could be floptical but those go as cd/DVD boards anyway so...
Yes all cd/DVD boards.

I thought the smaller oddly shaped 4 were HDD Boards, They are identical to the ones I have removed.

I honestly can't tell. Can you get a clean picture of the matrix bar code from one of the small middle ones and I'll cross reference it.
But honestly could be either one. I agree they look like hard drive but many laptop:half-height CD-ROM boards look like this too.

They very well could be. As I mentioned my first thought was actually floptical. But I looked up the company and SI did also make hard disk controllers at the time so I'll go with ER on this one and say go for HDD board.

Thanks a lot guys - although i'm still a little bit confused, i really appreciate your quick responses. I guess i'll sort the smaller ones as HDD controller boards - i mean, what in the worst case could happen, right? :D

I was wrong.
Definitely hard drive based on the latest photo.
So the rectangles are absolutely cd/DVD
The others are 99% positive hard drive.

The barcode still isn't sharp enough for my reader but that's me trying to scan a barcode from a phone.
