They're connectors. Go as gold pin connector.

I have always wondered why items like these go as gold pin connector but if they were all connected together one board they would go as backplane. Would you be able to explain why this is the case?

most of the time the backplanes have other components on the board in addition to the copper used for all the traces.

Connectors usually have little else besides the pins and the extraneous metal and plastic of the holders.

While I do think they will go as connectors as well (because of how thick the attached board is with no other components) it is kind of a grey area. It wouldn't hurt to check with Chris. If you do, let us know what you get for them.

i think your stuff is a victim of the law of averages...half the connectors sent in are metal and plastic with some gold pins (junky) and your connectors have enough content to make the price what it is for connectors hold up...that happens to everybody

Lol. I as well.
I can't tell by the photo but I went through my archive photos for "bizarre crap i sent to Chris" just to make sure and I don't have this design. Double sided ones (pass through adapters) went backplane so you may want to email the photo to Chris and ask. If you do please let us know what he says so I can add your photo to my list of classes.
