I have about 4 pounds of motherboards that came out of netbooks and/or chromebooks. They do not have CPU sockets; the CPU is a permanent part of the board. You can see they have ram slots, USB ports, video ports, LiOn battery connection blades, etc.

Are these considered peripheral grade boards even though they technically were the mainboard of the machines they came from?

motherboards with soldered CPU chips go as small socket motherboards. Remove the heat sinks and any metal that encloses expansion slots if you can. The heat sinks should pry off with channel locks if they are not attached with tension springs to the board. The metal over the expansion slots is thin, so you should be able to bend it to the point of breaking with pliers close to where the metal is physically attached to the board.

Location: Low DOS
Full sized laptops, notebooks, portable PCs and the like will usually be accepted as large socket

Mini notebooks, micro notebooks, many PDAs, chrome books, net books, are usually small socket.

All look like they'd be small socket.

Netbooks in general are problematic in that the small/large socket variance is not set in stone. Every manufacturer and model is proprietary and different.
