Those boards look identical to a batch that I just sent in lol... See this: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4852

Those NECs are soldered in place unfortunately... would that upgrade the board to gold cap chip board? I sent mine in for telecom...

I’m not sure at this point if they qualify for gold cap. I’ll ask Chris. They did, then they didn’t, then they did again. Lol
I haven’t sent any in quite some time so I’ll ask and get back to you.

Not sold they’re soldered. Most of the ones I’ve seen have had very stiff sockets (HIFR). You need to get your spudger in just the right place and angle (or use a thin flat head screwdriver or a scraper since you’re scrapping it).
Not saying your wrong, just that all the ones I’ve seen so far we’re just super tight, not soldered. And the ones pictured look like they’re in HIFR stub pin sockets. I can see a black plastic outline between the cpu and the board.

Just shot Chris a letter so as soon as I know I’ll post the answer. That way I can be sure.

Quote:
The chip would be priced as a Cyrix Gold Cap and if it was fixed to a
board the board would be a Gold Cap Chip board.

So the Boards with the Soldered NEC Processor with the Gold Lined top may be Gold Capped Boards? These NEC Procs are Soldered. I will heat and remove unless they raise the board price. I live in Florida so I have to watch my shipping costs. And hey thank you for the fast responses.

Yes the boards with the NEC them would be gold cap chip board. If it’s soldered they would be stub pins, leave them alone. Stub pin chips get downgraded depending on pin length and pitch regardless of cap and it’s just not worth it. Ever. I’ve tried for years and never got ahead removing one.

DEC and IBM are the only two companies I’ve ever seen with soldered pga chips that were full pin. Both for mainframe/mini boards.
