 Post subject: Sound board mic inputs

These came from inside the microphone inputs on a sound board. Are the tabs gold or brass?

Depends on the manufacturer and class of the equipment
Try a magnet
If it stick it’s gold plate.

If not the next step is to cut a piece.
If it’s a different colour underneath it’s gold plate, if not it’s brass.

Thanks! Guess it's brass. Which makes it that much more disappointing given one of these buggers put a nice gash in my finger when I removed it (one of these days I'll learn to *always* wear gloves).

You’ll never see solid (karat) gold in connectors meant to be used more than once. Gold plate (on nickel) and a very high grade brass are both common though.
And I feel your anguish, sliced myself up more than I want to talk about pulling stuff like that. Hey atleast it’s wort over a dollar a pound right!?!

no kidding a puled 20 lbs of ide cables apart the other day by the time i was done i had pins sticking out of my fingers .
