Honestly the first one I’d toss as is with my gold fingers. It’s an expansion card.

Looks like the second board is gonna make telco.

Not whole. Many of those cube units though have the only style power board that can make peripheral. I sent in a few dozen pounds a short while back and about half got the upgrade. As far as I’m aware look for TWO sets of gold connectors on the board. If so remove the extensive aluminium shields and sinks and pull the bigger fat canisters off. They’ll most likely get peripheral.
A lot of work for two gayloards though. So see if you can do it easily and fast enough to be worth wile AND email a board photo to Chris directly to make sure they will still take them as peripheral. And if not if it can clear something in between.

Backplane. Someone’s got a server farm!
;)

By the way. Semi-sorting those power cubes may be worthwhile. At least by model number. And dissecting one per model.
I HAVE found some with solid copper heat sinks and pipes inside.
At 3-4 lbs on the larger end of the scale, that’s $10+ a pop on the heatsink alone. Makes the extre minute or two of removing the rest of the board crap for Peripheral much more reasonable when your making $15 every 2-3 minutes.
Power driver, #2 stub Philips bit. Nail/screw trimmer. Mini bolt cutter. Robogrip or slip jaw pliers.
4-12 screws. Slips out. Snip snip snip cut cut. Off comes the sink with a good hard tug. Yank yank ... the giant capacitors and a nice clean board. A few pounds of copper or aluminium. Capacitors for AL breakage or sealed unit. And potentially a peripheral board.

It’s highly unlikely in one of these.
They are common in very early scsi ZIP and cd drives where precision is needed. Also second generation (washing machine) hard drives.
There may be gold PLATED stuff. But in my many years I’ve never pulled gold rings out of a tape drive smaller than 60mm wide. It would be under the slack wheel, the non powered one. If both are powered there is no solid gold ring. It wouldn’t hold its shape under the forces involved in a powered wheel.

If you’ve ever taken apart a hard drive tape drives have similar sets of rings. Many do have gold plated rings. But not outright gold.
Those larger free spin rings he may be thinking of are usually 16-18kt.
The more common ones are 1/20th gold by weight (aka 20m in pm terms) or less. Mostly less.

There’s good telco boards in these though.
Some heavy aluminium. Thick wires. Even the ribbon cables in older ones class better than average. Aluminium motors are the typical find rather than steel. Nickel shielding is normal but silver is not unheard of. Manganese cases are also common on the slide out style.
And anything older than the early 80s a very good chance of a 4040 knockoff with gold pins and a gold cap. If it was TSg who made the IC. If it’s undamaged there’s an ebay market for those as a collectible ($50 on a bad day). Many hundreds if the ic works.
All in all they’re worth the labour.
