I got some servers the other day (first time taking one apart) and have some boards from that I wasn't sure about. Already sold a bunch of them locally but there's a voltage regulator(??) and some sort of power card I was curious on how boardsort would grade.

Same picture there's a board I think I pulled from a printer that has an LED array of some sort on one side and a few ICs on the other.

Same picture I got a GPS tracking device of some sort with gold fingers and a large ceramic something on it...

Other picture is a bunch of thin ribbon cable from hard drives or cd/DVD drives. How would you recommend sorting these? The cables on the right have gold contacts, is there any benefit to separating those out? (These aren't the same as gold laminate are they??)

If whoever answers is feeling generous, I love learning about the boards and proper names for different things so feel free to educate. If not, board grades is just fine.

Again looks like spam blocked another real post from getting answered. I will give my opinion and see what Lost says since he is the expert. The ribbons I think would be mixed wire. The gold contacts may not be heavy enough to make difference but again we will see what Lost says. The board with gold fingers on both sides I think gold finger card, remove heatsink. The other gold finger board doesn't have much on it so may not go gold finger card but you may cut the gold fingers off and have peripheral on the board but we will see what Lost has to say. The other two cards peripheral, I don't know if the gold fingers on one side is enough to get that card to gold finger card level. I would remove metal shield if it can be removed. By answering these questions we get to give our thoughts and get to learn if right or wrong and we learn by doing so. Of course that is my opinion and like something else everyone has one. LOL

The ribbon wire I’ve been told you can cut off the fingers and they get gold finger rate and mixed wire for the rest and I would every little bit counts at $25.00 a pound but it does take alot more than you’d think to make a pound. I agree with everything mdesscrapper said I’m pretty sure he’s right about trimming the fingers on the card but I’d wait to see what lostinlodos says. The thing that you called ceramic something, I’m pretty sure it’s a cpu but don’t know what class maybe itd pay out like ic if it were removed. I desolder one that look just like it off a board from a Garmin but that board didn’t have one sided fingers on it. There’s no gold pins or anything on the other side cpu kinda a nail bitter.

Thanks for the input!

That's about how I was leaning on the boards but I hadn't run into anything quite like these before so I wanted another opinion. I went ahead and added better photos of the board from the GPS unit

The wire, I wasn't sure if the gold was just on the exposed contacts or if it ran the whole length and then whether it was plated on or if it's just gold. I'm not sure that I have a whole lot but it's nice to know.

Ribbon see gold laminate at the top of the category

boards
top left peripheral don't cut fingers
top right telco
bottom left peripheral don't cut fingers
bottom right telco don't cut finger

most of the ribbon wire here is standard nickel tin wire. with silver and gold contacts.
the MFS wire 239218/2 (or close) is gold laminate. so see my post sticky on the top of the category

If there are ic chips under the heatsink on bottom left board would it then get goldfinger rating?

Yes, and there aren’t. Not big enough to bump the grade
;)

Thanks lost!

I have read the gold laminate sticky, (I might should put the rest of this post over there, forgive my forum etiquette, or lack thereof) but I'm still not sure how to identify it.

Is gold wire ever used outside of the black flatwire you show as an example?
Short of opening up the laminate, is there any kind of marking on it that indicates it's gold wire? (Like Mg indicates magnesium to distinguish it from aluminum)

You've thrown out some acronyms and numbers I'm not familiar with:
17304 wire
MFS wire 239218/2
Could you or someone elaborate on those, or suggest a website, google wasn't helping me.

The acronyms of sort are identifications on your wires.
Sorry for the short reply, I wrote a book of a response and lost it on a page fault refresh.
