these boards from 1969 and 1970 are from an oscilloscope. They seem to be a lot higher grade than just telecom. Also there's a backplane from an old HP server that has been graded as telecom, but it is covered in almost a solid sheet of gold on both sides. What gives?

I was told that gold flashing looks all shiny and great but turn out to be as much gold as expected. Telecom grade is about best grade they offer unless you email boardsort direct and get a better quote. My guess is on the boards that got graded as telecom probally was due to the fact it has the plating otherwise that board wouldnt be telecom

Those same boards manufactured today would not have all the plating and would fetch peripheral and the HP server board would be considered a backplane. For those to be considered high grade, there would need to be gold capped chips present or more ICs than resistors and capacitors. Telecom grade would be a fair assessment on all those boards you have.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess Ill just toss those in my gaylord container to have refined. Yield on my last 2300 lbs was over $6 a pound for weird stuff like this. The IC chips do actually have gold feet on them, so maybe I'll pop those out and put them in my Ferrari box. (Everyone should have a box somewhere that you stash all your high end chips in for when you have a mid life crisis) It's all about planning!
