This is one where trimming makes sense.
Cleanly trimming will give you pins and a finger.
There’s no (visible) ICs so the best shot it has as a whole is gold pin connector. It’s a cable to slot bus adapter.

There's an inch or so on the fingers that have nothing on both sides, do I need to trim that section out?

As long as the gold contacts are on one side it will still count in situations like this.
It looks like the strip has at least some gold in one side across the finger. But yes anything a half inch or so, or more, that’s bare should be trimmed out
