The fastest way to remove a hard drive board is to pry the board from the drive using a stout but sharp flat head screwdriver. #NoScrewingAround

Thanks for the tutorial. Now the task of de-boarding a pile of HD's is less daunting.

On the other hand....
This works if you’re simply after the board.
Not so much if you want to strip the drive further. This method gets the board off almost instantly but also tends to bend and Jack the screws. If those screws are holding in the magnet, the arm, or the spindle motor you’re out of luck on a quick stripping.

hard drives tend to be a nice chunk of heavy aluminium so I gut them. The difference of 50č pp for clean vs 12č pp for dirty aluminium breakage. Given how fast I can strip a drive (about 30 seconds for 3.5” drives” I do better with that.

I'd really like to see this in action so I can learn to totally strip out a drive this fast. When I strip a drive I take it totally apart. But I end up taking like 5-10 minutes per drive.

I’m working on putting together some videos. I did one a bit slowed down to focus on where and how that Apx 5 minutes for a laptop drive. Which usually take me one to two minutes. The smaller size and smaller screws slow many things down for me considerably. My driver is too powerful so I wind up doing some by hand.

I'm looking forward to it

You can watch a fairly poor attempt at learning how to do this video stuff, here!

you'll notice a few things right away.

I've never done a video to post before. LOL

i spend a bit of time fumbling for driver bits. Some how a few went missing again. So this was really slowed down by doing it entirely by hand.

I'm not wearing gloves, you really should.

When all else fails, brute force and a good tool make anything possible. That motor was coming out even if my drive motor punch went missing. ;)
